Wild West – July 2013


The summer came, went, came back and then got extremely confused and couldn’t commit. Thinking about it I’ve had the odd bridging case like that! The ‘Wild West’ has been extremely busy, and not just because the ‘caravan army’ has now immobilised for the summer and the inevitable traffic jams have formed.

We know it’s the summer because we have just had the ‘Bridging and Commercial’ Awards. In an industry of numerous award ceremonies this is the one I look forward to the most. The infamous Mo Mulki knows how to put on a bash worthy of our industry. This year we were treated to a masked ball. I must point out, I am referring to a ‘Venetian Masked Ball’, a ball popular in the 1700’s, where the gentry and the upper classes were able to behave in a way not befitting their status as faces were hidden.

Roll forward 300 years and fill a room with 450 people linked to the bridging industry. We had masks of every size, colour and shape you could imagine. Venetian masks are probably not the most masculine item you could wear; poor Richard Deacon looked like one of Cher’s backup dancers in his! The evening was a fantastic success for Masthaven. The company won ‘Best Bridging Proposition’, which is an excellent award and confirms we have got our product range right. We rose to our feet like proud parents when our very own Claire Wasbrough was awarded ‘Underwriter of The Year’. Never has an award been more truly deserved.

Our friends at Complete FS invited us to be part of their annual ‘Lender Expo’.  It was a beautiful day and the surroundings of Meon Valley Country Club were perfect. The team at Complete are really well-supported by their introducers and the room was full to bursting point. The format of the day was built around ‘roundtable’ presentations, with delegates scoring each presentation.  Masthaven received excellent feedback and scored extremely well. It was an excellent opportunity to meet with so many brokers and advisors.

The ever popular NACFB Expo has also recently taken place in Birmingham;  a one-day event with the industries finest in attendance. The entire Masthaven sales team were on stand and we were able to speak to a huge number of advisors. These events are so important to a BDM as you have the opportunity to speak to the individual who actually recommends your product to the customer. Attendance was high and the day was a huge success.  A certain senior member of the sales team took full advantage of other lenders hospitality and ate his way around the show!

The past couple of months have been great. It’s getting busier and busier and I am meeting new introducers all the time. There is so much as a BDM I can do to help a company. Whether it be training, identifying new business sources, marketing ideas/concepts or general business support. It’s not just about handing out pens and post-it pads!
